Ryan Gosling Says Former Co-Star Burt Reynolds Took a Shine to His Mom ·

Ryan Gosling's mother, Donna Gosling, made quite the impression on Burt Reynolds!

On Wednesday, The Fall Guy star appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live, and spoke about his first film, Frankenstein and Me, as a teenager. While his experience with Reynolds was good, Gosling explained the layer that made it "complicated."

"I thought he took a shine to me. I thought he thought there was something special to me, and then I realized that I have a really beautiful mom," the 43-year-old said about his co-star. "It was like I was getting secondary shine."

The real star to Reynolds was Gosling's mother, Donna.

"The real shine was for my mom and I was like, 'Oh, this is secondary shine,'" he added.

When asked by Kimmel how long it took before he realized that the late heartthrob had a crush on his mom, Gosling noted, "I wish I had found out sooner."

Donna didn't mind the attention. "Oh my god, she loved it," the Barbie star said.

He was quick to clarify, "Nothing happened."

Things could have gone very differently.

"You could have been Ryan Reynolds had that worked out," Kimmel quipped.

Still, Gosling said that his time with Reynolds wasn't bad. In fact, he got autographed T-shirts, and some questionable advice from the movie star.

"He's like, 'Let me tell you something, kid: Don't spend your whole life stepping over diamonds to live with a Cubic zirconia,'" Gosling said, mimicking Reynolds. "I was like, 'I'm 13. I don't know what any of those things are. I don't know what any of that is. Stop looking at my mom. I'm right here.'"

Donna has been a big support for her son. In March, Donna, her husband, Valerio Attanasio, and Gosling's sister, Mandi Gosling attended the Oscars, where Gosling earned a nomination for his role as Ken in the 2023 blockbuster, Barbie.
